The COMENIUS Project Teacher Learning for European Literacy Education / TeL4ELE 518080-LLP-2011-SE-COMENIUS-CMP (2011-2013) invites all those interested in questions of literacy in primary, secondary or adult education to participate in the final meeting of the project in Madrid in October 2013. The aim of the conference is to present the results of the project, which has developed teacher expertise, and designed and trialed materials for different languages and contexts (Sweden, Denmark, Scotland, Portugal and Spain), based on a functional linguistics approach to reading and writing, that of Reading to Learn. We would like to share experiences from this project with practicing teachers, teacher educators and researchers. These groups are encouraged to present their work, grounded in the functional or other models. The conference will be an opportunity for building intellectual and personal links and future collaboration between practioners and researchers in literacy from different countries.
Background to the linguistic model and the pedagogy will be provided by plenary speakers, Professor J. R. Martin and Dr. D. Rose from the University of Sydney, Australia, members of the TeL4ELE project. More information on the project can be found at TeL4ELE.
The meeting will be held at La Corrala, a seventeenth century building in the heart of Madrid, under the auspices of the Universidad Autónoma Madrid, with the collaboration of the Universidad Complutense de Madrid and the Universidad de Mondragón.
The presentations will be organized into three strands: Action Research, Innovation/ Experiences in the Classroom, and Teacher Education.
